Charges Include Murder and Attempted Murder

Shooting in 2017 Left Two Dead, Four Injured

On August 28, 2017, a mass shooting occurred at the Clovis-Carver Library in downtown Clovis, New Mexico. Under an agreement signed by Nathaniel Ray Jouett, the Clovis teenager will plead guilty to a total of 30 charges, including two counts of first-degree murder. Jouett went on a shooting rampage at the library, murdering two people and injuring four.

Jouett, who was 16 years old at the time of the shooting, will face two counts of first-degree murder, four counts of assault with intent to commit a violent felony, four counts of aggravated assault, and 20 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The plea agreement, which was signed on June 29, 2023, calls for Jouett to be sentenced to at least 25 years in prison, with a maximum sentence of life in prison. Jouett is scheduled to be sentenced on September 22, 2023.

The shooting at the Clovis-Carver Library was a senseless tragedy that left two families shattered. The community of Clovis is still mourning the loss of the victims, and the survivors are still healing from their injuries. Jouett's guilty plea brings some closure to this horrific event, but it cannot erase the pain and suffering that his actions caused.
